Jamal Ahmelich has a B.Ed. in Education and an M.A in Counselling Psychology. He is a registered Squamish clinical counsellor through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (#13000). Working with individuals through counselling, teaching and in clinical work, he has experienced what helps people overcome the difficult issues they sometimes face. His philosophy of therapy is that the client/counsellor relationship is of utmost importance in promoting change and as such, always uses a client centered, strengths based approach. He often utilizes cognitive behavioural therapy and solutions focused therapy in sessions. When warranted, he believes there is great power in incorporating Nature-Based therapy into his clients treatment plans. Whether you want to improve your relationships with others, cope with difficult emotions in a more constructive way, address mental health concerns or simply use some support going through a life transition, Jamal will work hard with you to help you achieve your goals. Sessions are offered at the Sound Mind Counselling Clinic and/or in a Nature-Based setting in Squamish.
Jamal is an avid outdoors-person and likes to spend his free time chasing fresh air by kiteboarding, skiing, mountain biking, hiking and backpacking.
